Radiation and Diffraction Effects of Convex and Concave Domes in an Infinite Baffle

Document Thumbnail

The convex dome has a rather smooth pressure response which decreases in the high-frequency region of the reproducing range. The concave dome has a wide peak in this range and has a larger radiation resistance than the convex dome. The sound waves from a circular line source around a convex or concave dome are diffracted by an amount which is enough to cause intermodulation distortion in an actual loudspeaker.
