Some Studies on the Reduction of Head Wear Caused by Magnetic Tapes and a Test Device for Measuring the Relative Wear on a Simulated Head

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes the results of some studies to determine the effects of various surface treatments to decrease head wear caused by contact with magnetic tape. The project was conducted as part of a survey of some commercial tapes for use in product. A test device for simulating head wear and a means of measuring the relative head wear is described. The possible effects on output at low and high frequencies and the noise level were investigated.
