In most analyses of loudspeaker systems, it is assumed constant force factor (BI product) and suspension stiffness. At medium and high power levels this is far from the truth. To be able to investigate the problems due to these defects the force factor and suspension characteristics have been included in a newly developed computer, which solves the differential equations for the mechanical system of electrodynamic loudspeaker with different enclosure types. Transient response, nonlinear distortion, and instability are discussed for three typical loudspeaker cases. This large signal analysis reveals severe magnitude dependent transient distortion. Simple ways of improving performance are shown.
