A microphone system employing electret transducers, electronic modules, and accessory items that utilize standardized interfaces has been developed. The building block concept permits, via rearrangement of components, the assembly of highly specialized microphones, without maintaining an excessively large inventory. It is, therefore, possible for the microphone user to obtain capabilities in excess of those obtainable from unitized microphones at significantly lower cost.
