Artificial head (dummy head) recordings are known to have precise sound localization and presence, but is limited generally to 2-channel recording and to headphone listening. This paper describes the new technique which electronically synthesizes parameters of artificial head so that it has made it possible to utilize multitrack recordings done without using an artificial head for binaural listening. Described also is a signal processing technique which makes it possible to reproduce binaural recordings through loudspeakers. Those techniques apply to quadraphonic sound as well. The process actually takes place at mixdown sessions to produce masters for cutting quadraphonic discs.
