Biphonic transmission normally needs only one scanning plane for room-related reproduction of an auditory scene. The sound is picked up by a microphone with a pattern that rotates in one plane and is reproduced by a plain configuration of loudspeakers. If there are used two rotary planes including an angle of 60° or 90° and if the rotary microphones are slightly staggered, the reproduction of spatial sound is clearly improved and the approach of a sound source seems to be more realistic. The results of the experiments are discussed.
