Evaluating the Influence of Room Acoustics on L/R Stereo Perception

Document Thumbnail

The acoustics of room or studio produce unexpected weightings on the L/R perception of stereo sound. Using third-octave noise and N-A techniques, rapid accurate procedures for evaluating many listening positions, identifying the best ones objectively, as well as stereo figures of merit for the overall room are given. Statistical mathematics and TI-59 programs for quick processing of results are supplied. The curious effect of room acoustics on L/R source perception bias vs. frequency is discussed.
