Stacked and Splayed Acoustical Sources

Document Thumbnail

Wave theory has been used to predict the directional properties of stacked acoustical sources. The basic theory is for regular linear array of ideal sources. The predicted dependence of response at different angles can then be corrected using data obtained from the polars of a real single unit to produce predictions for stacks of real units. It is also shown how the theory and method can be adapted to predictions for regular rectangular arrays. The method is also adapted to splayed and crossfired pairs. A further refinement deals with a pair which is stacked in one direction and at the same time is splayed in a perpendicular direcction. Certain behavior which at first appears to be anomolous can be explained from the theory.
