Delta Modulation is Alive and Well and Living in Time Compression

Document Thumbnail

Basic principles of delta modulation are reviewed, particularly with respect to dynamic range of speech. Techniques for increasing dynamic range and consequent engineering trade-offs are discussed. The AmBiChron principle of time compression and expansion is described, together with the AmBiChron's use of delta modulation. Advantages and disadvantages of using delta modulation in time compression/expansion are outlined. A brief demonstration will be given with the oral presentation at the 61st AES Convention.
