A Microprocessor Based Controller for Live Performance Music Synthesizers

Document Thumbnail

The placing of a microcomputer between performer and electronic circuitry results in better human-engineered musical instruments. By using a single chip microcomputer to interface a keyboard and control panel to analog sound generating circuitry, a live performance oriented system has been designed which includes such features as a 16 voice editing programmer, keyboard tuning of oscillator parameters, and a real time arpeggiation sequencer. A demonstration of the ARP QUADRA, a polyphonic synthesizer incorporating the controller, follows the presentation of the paper.
