A method basing only on sinewave-measurements for easy calculation and detection of both static and dynamic overload in amplifiers applied with input signals of arbitrary shapes is described. The results are compared with those obtainable from more sophisticated calculations taking into account the physical properties of the active components in amplifiers with different input-stage realisations. Design criteria for DIM-free negative feedback amplifiers and active filters are derived and a level-indicator-circuit for both static and dynamic overload detection is described.
