Spatial Reproduction by Eidophony

Eidophonic transmission by two planes enables the reproduction of the curvature of sound waves-and by this the reproduction of the distance of a sound source. Recordings of music in several rooms with different reverberances were made. The comparison betwen two- and one-place eidophonic technique shows that spatial impression depends highly on the detection of distance. The two-planes technique gives to the subject the impression of being enveloped by the acoustics. A method has been found to transmit the complete eidophonic signal within the band form 30 Hz to 19 kHz. By this the two-plane eidophonic system can be transmitted via two normal channels (disc, FM-Broadcasting) with full mono and stereo compatibility. Eidophonic transmission of one plane in a one-channel system (like medium wave band radio) should be possible if further restriction of the basic signal up to 9 kHz is allowed.
