For almost 20 years a world-wide accepted system for stereophonic broadcasting has been introduced on a very large scale. Any extension to the system for better reproduction of the original sound must be found at the receiver end only, otherwise the transmission system will have to be changed. The latter alternative requires corresponding adaption of the reproducing system but compatibility has to be regarded as imperative. A new broadcasting system is described offering inherent compatibility and permitting three-channel (cubophonic) transmission.
