Two separate techniques have led to successful and practical solid-state integrated filters suitable for many purposes. These filters bid fair to revolutionize filtering in the audio frequency range. Transversal filters combine linear phase with steep skirts and high out-of-hand attenuation. Newer switched-capacitor filters permit implementation of most standard lowpass and bandpass L-C designs in integrated circuit form. For either type, passband frequencies scale linearity with an external clock input frequency. As an example, one filter family permits three third-octave, two half-octave, or one full-octave filters in a single dual-in-line I.C. package, all meeting ANSI specifications. performance, limitations, and areas of application are amplified, including rules for custom specifications.
