A New Method of Measuring Transient Intermodulation Distortion: A Comparison with the Conventional Method

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes our new method of measuring TIM-D (Transient Intermodulation Distortion) with a sawtooth signal and its advantages over the conventional method which uses a square-sine signal. We have used both kinds of tests on five amplifiers and found that 1) our new method produces results closely related to those obtained with the conventional method, but with an improvement in detection capability of over 50dB, and 2) it permits isolation of TIM-D from static distortion such as THD and IM-D.
