General Purpose Time Domain Processor for Audio Applications

Document Thumbnail

This paper introduces a computing machine which utilizes modern pipeline and paralleling multibus techniques to perform various time-domain effects. Owing to its specialized arithmetic unit, the processor performs algorithms for time delay, high-quality reverberation, or 60-Hz hum removal. Bandpass, low-pass, and high-pass digital filters can also be configured fast and efficiently. The processor contains its own set of high-level, single-cycle, macro instructions and is programmed through an external bus by a commercial minicomputer. Programming is easily done for multichannel as well as single-channel applications. Several prototypes have been built using LSI-technology integrated circuits for use in audio and general digital filtering applications.
