Measurement of the Random Incidence Response of an Omnidirectional Microphone in an Inexpensive and Compact Acoustical Environment

Document Thumbnail

Manufacturers of sound level meters have need to measure the random incidence frequency response of the microphone used on that product. This paper describes a method of making this measurement without the need for an anechoic or large reverberant room. A reverberant box is used to directly determine the random incidence response of the microphone at high frequencies with a coupler measurement being substituted for reverberant measurement at low frequencies. The techniques and equipment are discussed in detail.
