Headphones permit auditory experiences not available through external loudspeakers. Binaural systems cultivate re-creation of these experiences by simulating the signal processing effected by interactions of anatomical features with impinging acoustic waves. Simulations involve microphones in manikin's or men's ears and generating cues electronically. Applications include basic auditory research, blind mobility training, radio-broadcasting, and spatial aspects of musical composition.
