The Fourier series can be applied as is to matrix 4-channel transmission, while the QS system employs it in a slightly modified form to improve compatibility with stereo playback. The paper explains differences between these two methods, then goes on to mathematically anayze the differences between so-called m-2 encoding and 4-2 encoding; Since QS is based on 4-2 encoding, this characteristic can be used, if necessary, to develop it into a 4-3-4 or 4-4-4 system. An actual circuit schematic of the QS encoder is also presented.
