The most common approach to two-quadrant multiplier design has utilized the differential transistor pair driven by a current source. A new method of generating voltage controllable gain, which provides a logarithmic as well as linear control voltage scale, is presented and compared with the classical approach. Also demonstrated is the ease with which multiplier elements may be ganged together as required in such applications as voltage controlled filters and wqualizers.
