More Signal, Less Noise, Not Always a New Tape

In recent years, most of the progress in tape recording has come from the tape manufacturers. There are however, other areas where advances can be made. They are, tape handling, head design, and circuit design. The last one is the fastest, easiest, and least expensive. This is because it is based on existing technology. It is these proven circuit concepts which are the subject of this paper.
