Analysis-Synthesis as a Tool for Creating New Families of Sound

Document Thumbnail

Established techniques for the analysis-synthesis of speech signals may be applied in ways which produce new and unusual sound families. Examples are musical instruments articulating high quality human speech and musical signals being modulated by the time-varying spectral characteristics of other musical signals. Sounds produced by these means have sparked an interest among composers of computer music, as well as workers in psychoacoustics.
