Technical advancements in the areas of consumer reproduction equipment, magnetic tape oxide formulations, and high-speed duplicator heads have made mass duplication of high quality music recordings possible. The contribution of each of these factors is discussed. The means of optimization of a high-speed duplication system is described. The practical system performance specifications necessary to achievement of high-quality duplication are summarized.
