The Print-Through Phenomenon and Its Practical Consequences

A survey of the existing theory of print-through is presented with a discussion of the implications for the recording engineer. The roles of both the medium and the recording configuration are characterized. Standard print-through measurement methods are compared quantitatively. Advice is presented to the user on how to select and employ tape to insure minimum print-through consistent with other recording objectives.
