Acoustics of omnidirectional loudspeakers

Document Thumbnail

The directivity of typical omnidirectional loudspeakers is uniform in the horizontal plane and angle-dependent in the vertical plane. Usually the omnidirectional properties in the horizontal plane are provided by a vertically oriented cone or dome transducer that radiates against a diffusor. In this work, two types of omnidirectional transducers are analyzed – one with a vertically oscillating cone loaded by a diffusor, and the other based on an annular flexural diaphragm where the axial vibration is transformed into radiation through an omnidirectional horn. Acoustical models of the transducers are analyzed both numerically and analytically.
