Switch-mode power amplifiers have become the conventional choice for audio amplification due to their very high efficiency and negligible THD+N performance. This paper proposes a new method to determine the reverse recovery loss theoretically. The Spice model from the manufacture is simulated with a Double pulse tester in LTspice. Mapping the reverse recovery behaviour for different currents and time periods allows it to be fitted to a model. The fitted model is used to estimate the reverse recovery loss in a Class-D audio amplifier power stage. The conventional model shows a 16 times larger loss compared to the fitted model for a worst case comparison.
