When a human perceives a space by hearing, horizontal sound image localization and spaciousness are sensed based on ILD (Inter-aural level difference) and ITD (Inter-aural time difference). However, in the vertical direc-tion, spectral cue and directional band caused by the difference in the frequency characteristic of the direction of arrival of sound caused by the shape of the ear, are crucial. The authors investigated the difference between the original 22.2 multichannel sound and its ?ltered sound by limiting the playback frequency band of its top layer using various contents. The results demonstrated that there were no signi?cant differences in spatial impression, even if the top layer does not have a band below approximately 400 Hz.
