A Wide Range Loudspeaker System

Document Thumbnail

This speaker system makes use of an improved heavy duty dynamic speaker for reproduction of the range from the lowest frequencies to 2000 cps. Above 2000 cps the curved electrostatic speaker gives uniform sound distribution over a wide angle. The dynamic speaker is mounted in a critically damped enclosure designed for smooth response. The cabinet also houses the amplifier and record changer. The tone arm has a tuned damper attached which improves the microphonic and rumble rejection ratios. Amplifier response is adjusted to complement other components in the system, so overall response is flat within plus or minus 5 db from 32 cps to 20,000 cps. This system is the heart of Philco Corporation's 1958 Phonorama IV.
