Analysing Phase-Amplitude Matrices

Matrixing systems are based on phase differences and/or amplitude ratio. Both are conveniently expressed as angles. Defining these angles as directions in physical space makes possible the matrix encoding of two- or three-dimensional directionality, as in multidirectional sound systems. Angular expression of matrixing parameters also facilitates performance analysis of existing matrixing systems and design of new matrices to meet specifed requirements. General equations can be set up for matrices containing any combination of phase and amplitude parameters. Signal separation is described quantitatively by the same mathematical function of either the amplitude ratio angle or the phase difference angle.
