The main problem in Bürolandschaften is the dividing-off of adjacent groups of people who are working. The penetration noise (speech intrusion) of telephone calls, typewriters and conversations have to be masked out by a steady, non-obtrusive and non-directional noise-level. In some Bürolandschaften the sound level is fairly low, depending on the work being done. The best way of providing the whole room with a constant noise-level is to use loudspeaker systems. In Germany, we have just started to use such systems for open-plan offices in several buildings. The kind of pink noise and equalizers, the number of loudspeakers and control instruments as well as many of the acoustical requirements will be described here.
