Proposed Universal Encoding Standards for Compatible Four-Channel Matrixing

Document Thumbnail

Several four-channel systems, discrete and matrixed, have already been suggested. There are many proponents of compatible matrixing systems, but they are not united on a single approach. An encoding system is proposed that can be transmitted and reproduced with present media, recorded and broadcast, and affords maximum flexibility. A simple decoder now available recovers the signal. The standards also leave room for subsequent electronic improvements at the decoding end.
