A brief review will be made of the historical development of speech time compression-expansion techniques and equipment. Recent advances in electronic circuitries, both analog and digital, have made it possible to construct low cost speech time compressor-expanders with good audio quality and very high reliability. Several such methods will be discussed. A demonstration will be given to illustrate the state of art in speech time compression-expansion.
