A Fresh Approach to Audio Limiting

The Audio Limiter is perhaps the most abused of common signal processing devices. Nebulous terminology, uncalibrated controls, and restrictions in choice of operating modes lead to frequent misapplication. This paper suggests a partial solution in its discussion of the design and application of a peak- and average-responding Limiter incorporating calibrated attenuators and offering a variety of gain control functions.
