Early Reflections Design for Natural Stereo Sound Listening

Document Thumbnail

To get a natural stereo sound in rooms, there have been some considerations. For example, to maximize time and frequency density, Feedback Delay Network (FDN) is used even in which a feedback matrix has every element consisting of absolute value 1. To model faster high frequency decay according to increasing number of reflections, absorption filters after delay lines in the FDN are generally used. Mixing matrix for uncorrelated L/R outputs is also used. In this paper, an elaborate design scheme especially for the first early reflection portion in early reflections region was proposed to obtain higher interaural cross-correlation coefficients compared to those of conventional systems, resulting in more precise sound source image with ambience.
