Interactive Mixing Using Wii Controller

Document Thumbnail

This paper describes the design, construction and analysis of an interactive gesture-controlled audio mixing system by the means of a wireless video game controller. The concept is based on the idea that the Mixing Engineer can step away from the mixing desk and become part of the performance of the piece of audio. Every playback of the audio will be unique to the gestures, and ultimately the performance, of the engineer. The system allows full, live control of gains, panning, equalisation and a variety of other effects for multi-channel audio. The system and its implementation are described in detail. Results on usability and performance of the system are also discussed.
