Design Considerations of Low Noise Audio Input Circuitry for a Professional Microphone Mixer

Document Thumbnail

A survey of audio mixers made prior to the design of a recently introduced professional microphone mixer indicated a lack of uniformity in the industry, particularly in regard to methods for measuring and specifying noise performance. It is the intent of this paper to discuss to discuss some of the methods for determining noise performance which are presently in use and to suggest a preferred technique. The microphone mixer which evolved from this noise investigation is also described with emphasis on those techniques used to develop the extremely noise-free input stages used in the mixer. The performance attained is also mentioned, along with reference tables and graphs which should serve as an aid to designers and users of professional audio equipment.
