Objective testing of circumaural hearing protectors will become standardized in the near future, and objective attenuation data will be used interchangeably with subjective data by laboratories, manufacturers, military procurement activities, and hearing conservationists. A type of objective tester is described along with recommendations for inclusion in the technique standard which will soon be written.
