During the past twenty five years objectives and methods of sound recording have undergone quite considerable development. Having evolved from almost pure engineering practice, recording today appears to be approaching more and more a talent for juggling and compromise. Analyzing the background reveals that too much differentiation in professional training can easily be one of the reasons. The paper further examines the numerous aspects involved.
