This paper describes a magnetic tape transport whose important characteristics differ radically from those of the more conventional studio mastering recorders. The device is DC operated and employs independent servo controls for each of the three motors. This approach makes possible constant tape tension in all operating modes, a speed range of 32 to 1, and rapid speed changing capabilities.
