Thinner magnetic tapes are more liable to the print-through effect. The only possibility to suppress this effect efficiently is to use a magnetic coating, being less sensitive to this phenomenon. The selection of oxides of convenient properties is facilitated by the study of the Preisach distribution function of such material. The paper gives an analysis of a number of modern magnetic tapes.
