Great demands are made on the loudspeaker equipment for the sound irradiation of the audience. The listener wants to hear more than before. The audibility of individual words and the sound reproduction of music must be satisfactory. The loudspeaker equipment, which under certain circumstances can be quite extensicve, has an effect on the microphone recording which has to be perfect for the many millions of radio and television listeners. The application of sound-absorbing material is necessary to avoid certain disadvantages, e.g., on the stage or on the back wall. Sound irradiation and the controlling of the microphone recording must be coordinated. The acoustics in the hall could lead to the introduction of certain effects, e.g., delayed signals, reverberation, and distortion.
