Efficient Trellis-type Sigma Delta Modulator

Document Thumbnail

Recently, a new type Sigma Delta Modulator (SDM), a Trellis Noise-Shaping Converter, has been introduced in [1] as a 1-bit digital audio stream generator. This type has several advantages compared to standard SDM, including better performance in stability, signal to noise ratio, linearity and prevention of oscillation. A major drawback of the trellis architecture is the large amount of computations and memory usage compared to standard architecture. An efficient trellis implementation will be introduced resulting in a significant decrease of the number of computations and memory with hardly any change in the converter's performance.[1] Hiroshi Kato, 'Trellis Noise Shaping Converters, Architecture and Evaluation', Technical Report of IEICE, Vol. 101, No. 381, 65-72, EA2001-59 (2001)
