A programmable gain cell is described which operates in a current-steering mode. The technique is shown to offer good linearity and a precisely defined maximum gain that exhibits near zero distortion. The cellular structure is presented together with an application circuit using error feedforward distortion correction within the input stage, while similar techniques realize a precision current mirror but configured using error feedback.
