Loudspeaker listening tests are conducted under free-field conditions. The tests include both subjective and objective listening. The results indicate that the coloration heard with so called "well designed" loudspeakers under normal listening conditions is a result of the interaction between loudspeaker and listening room. A device for simulating reflections is constructed and used to determine the subjective coloring effects of different room reflections. The reflection-induced coloration is shown to depend almost directly on the resulting frequency response.
