Test Procedure and Digital Test Generator for Digital Audio Systems

Document Thumbnail

Digital audio recording and mixing systems require high performance or special testing equipment, e.g. for amplitude and phase distortion as well as group delay measurements. The methods to be employed sometimes differ substantially from the test systems used in analog systems. But using a combined test method including digital and analog signal path in a digital audio system, a very simple test method can be evaluated. Complete PCM-Audio systems can be tested in the following system configuration (starting with a digital input signal): D/A Converter - Sample & Hold (Deglitcher) - Low Pass Filter (Analog Output = Analog Input) - Antialiasing Filter (LPF) - Sample & Hold - A/D Converter - Digital Output. This requires a digital signal generator with an accuracy of 1/2 LSB over full scale, with various signal and sampling frequencies.
