The Shuttle Transportation System is the most sophisticated spacecraft ever built. Servicing of the Space Shuttle requires an extensive network of Ground Support Equipment at the Kennedy Space Center. Due to the nature of the highly toxic fuels, solid rocket motors, and other hazards associated with the Shuttle, a sophisticated paging and area warning system is required for personnel safety. This paper describes the design philosophy behind the system, unusual acoustical and environmental problems encountered, and actual system implementation.
