The paper outlines the development of a new microphone diaphragm and energizing system which produces high output with low distortion, while eliminating the use of power supplies and internal amplifiers. This new design technique utilizes a flat diaphragm with a flat etched ribbon coil, energized via a powerful Sumarium-cobalt magnet system. The paper describes the performance characteristics, manufacturing methods and the application of the microphone capsule to various microphone types.
