The design formulas derived for two-way systems usually do not give acceptable results when applied to three-way systems. However the bandpass section of a three-way system can be synthesized from a bandpass filter function derived from the adjacent lowpass filter section. This method provides a bandpass filter which combines symmetrically with the low and highpass sections of the crossover. Detailed design equations and the resulting responses for several popular crossover alignments will be presented.
