Digital Control of Loudspeaker Array Directivity

Document Thumbnail

In an earlier paper we described a mathematical model which allows computer simulation of the directivity characteristics of sound reinforcement loudspeaker arrays constructed using "real" drivers, i.e., drivers possessing defined amplitude, group delay, and horizontal/vertical polar directivity characteristics. In this paper, we will present a loudspeaker array implementation which allows digital control of the parameters suggested by the mathematical model. Simulation study results will be presented in order to illustrate the effects of the various control parameters to which this implementation allows access. We will conclude by outlining plans for a prototype digitally-controlled loudspeaker array.
