An Improved Colinear Array

Document Thumbnail

The concept of the Colinear Array was described by Augspurger in a paper read to the west coast AES convention in 1970. That paper described some promising results using scale models but was never submitted for publication. The authors were prompted to reinvestigate the colinear design because of the power of computer modeling techniques and the promise of electronic delay as an additional element in loudspeaker array design. An improved colinear design is described which achieves good pattern control primarily though relatively simple geometry. We also describe possible applications of colinear geometry for very large, powerful arrays used for rock music concerts.
